"A Chinese statue of the Buddha dating back to around 1100 AD is more than just a statue -- it's the final resting place of a Buddhist master." A scientific study shows an entire human body was mummified into the statue of a monk. A CT Scan took place in the Netherlands showing a monk present in the statue. It's believed to be Liuquan of the Chinese Meditation School. The monk in the statue was, surprisingly, missing all of its organs. All of the monks organs had been removed already, which was a surprise to scientists. Samples of a material that has yet to be identified were taken from the thoracic and abdominal cavities, and something else extraordinary was discovered: in the spaces once occupied by organs, the team found scraps of paper scribed with ancient Chinese characters. According to International Business Times, many practicing Buddhists believe that mummies like that of Buddhist master Liuquan aren't actually dead, but are rather in an advanced state of meditation.
