Alright, half the newbies that come on the forum make one post to self promote their YouTube channel, clan or whatever and they do it in the General section, then leave forever. It's quite annoying actually, so could we make a different forum for this or just ban it all together?

Not sure what else we could do, aside from requiring a minimum post count. Putting in a separate forum would work, but I haven't seen an overwhelming number of these pop up. I can think of two clan recruitment posts, and a YouTube channel promotion but that's all. I'll see about merging the posts of members who are just updating that channels have new content, still recruiting, whatever.

There's also nothing against the rules about self-promotion. The closest I could find:

Reasonable course of action is make a Clan/Channel promotion page/forum I guess. Then require "x" amount of posts to be able to post/promote in that area. As long it's gaming related though, it fits under the current rules unless it promotes pornography, violence, etc.

Sorry for being so late to reply to this. I saw this on my phone yesterday (?) but wasn't signed in and couldn't really reply.

We could put a post limit on self advertisement, but for now, I'm probably going to leave it as it is. Once activity picks up a bit better we can work on expansion and see where that takes us.

Gaming Forums has been up a year strong and changed a lot in that period. While we're not too active as a community, I think it's important to be patient and let things fall into place over time, and work of course is a huge factor. Nothing happens by itself.

I don't really want to ban it. Self promotion is a huge reason for someone to come to a forum. Another one is modding which a friend suggested to do here and release exclusive, member only mods and build a category (or a section) of Gaming Forums dedicated towards it. While that's a longer term thing and isn't concrete enough for even an announcement (and no work done on it), we do have other methods of activity - self promotion is a biggie.

I wouldn't want another forum just for it either.

Hey, maybe you'll find something you'll like. There are some great, undiscovered new YouTubers out there.
